  1. Why Prong Settings Are Better Than Bezel Settings

A bezel setting is where the diamond nose stud is surrounded by metal, such as Surgical Steel.  Whereas, a Prong setting is where there are 3 or 4 claws that come up and surround the diamond.  You can still see the bottom of the diamond in a prong setting nose stud, with the bezels you aren’t able to.

The main reason why a prong setting for your diamond nose stud is the best choice is very simple.  Diamonds and other gemstones such as Cubic Zirconia(CZ), Swarovski all have a brilliant shine when you first purchase them.  They sparkle, glitter and shine!

However, Diamonds and gemstones are still prone to getting dirty and dull-looking.   With a prong setting it is MUCH easier to clean your diamond or gemstone as you still have access to the bottom of the gem to clean it.

Because the bezel settings hug the gemstone and cover the bottom of the gem it is very difficult to clean.  Makeup, Cleanser, moisturizers etc can get stuck under the gem and give a dull look to your gem.

The following links provide you an example of a bezel setting:

  2. Nose Ring Sizes

Nose ring, Nose hoop, Captive Bead Rings etc are all measured by giving the inside diameter of the hoop. The nose ring is either measured in inches or mm.  The below chart will help you decide what size nose hoop you may be looking for.

If you are looking for a size chart specifically for nose studs, nose screws etc you can visit our blog from last week, Nose Gem Sizes.

  3.

    Nose Jewelry Sizes

All nose jewelry styles except nose rings (nose hoops) will come with a gemstone or design.  We have nose studs with Cubic Zirconia or Swarovski gemstones.  We also have nose studs with special designs such as butterflies, peace signs, ladybugs etc.  The design nose studs can also have gemstones such as CZ's or Swarovski's, but also they could be 925 Sterling Silver, 316L Surgical Steel, Gold, White Gold etc.  The below chart is designed to help you determine what size of gem or design you might be looking for.

If you are looking for a nose ring (nose hoop) please see our blog next week designed specifically for this type of nose jewelry.

  4. Cleaning Your Swarovski Gem

There are many different reasons why you would need to clean your Swarovski gem in your nose stud... Products such as hairspray, cleansers, makeup, lotions can all too often get lodged in your Swarovksi gem making the gem appear to be dull and not as vibrant as it once was. If you have a nose stud that contains a Swarovski gem the best way to clean your nose stud is by removing it.

Simply insert the nose stud in a bowl of luke warm water that contains a mild liquid detergent. This can even be mild dishsoap or handsoap. Next, take a soft bristled brush such as a toothbrush and scrub your gemstone. Make sure that you don't use bristles that are too hard as this may scratch the metal setting on your nose stud. Also, make sure your nose stud is far away from any drain or place where it can get lost.

After you have finished scrubbing the nose stud put it back into your liquid soap solution and swoosh it around a few times. Rinse the Swarovski nose stud with warm water and then dry it. You will notice your dull Swarovksi gem has come back to life!

  5. Cleaning Your Diamond

There are many different reasons why you would need to clean your diamond in your nose ring... Products such as hairspray, cleansers, makeup, lotions can all too often get lodged in your diamond making the diamond appear to be dull and not as vibrant as it once was. If you have a nose ring that contains a diamond the best way to clean your nose ring is by removing it. Simply insert the nose ring in a bowl of luke warm water that contains a mild liquid detergent. This can even be mild dishsoap or handsoap. Next, take a soft bristled brush such as a toothbrush and scrub your diamond. Make sure that you don't use bristles that are too hard as this may scratch the metal setting on your nose ring. After you have finished scrubbing the nose ring put it back into your liquid soap solution and swoosh it around a few times. Rinse the diamond nose ring with warm water and then dry it. You will notice your dull diamond has come back to life!

  6. Cleaning A Cubic Zirconia (CZ) GemStone

You've just bought a new sparkling nose ring, it has a beautiful Cubic Zirconia Gemstone... You are certainly encouraged to clean your nose ring upon arrival, but also we encourage you to KEEP cleaning your nose ring in order to ensure the same sparkling diamond-like effect that you first experienced when you opened your well packaged nose ring.

Even if you don't often touch your nose ring, things such as hairspray, perfume, make up, cleansers, lotions etc can dull the shine of your nose ring. This is the case with all gemstones, not just cubic zirconias.

Cleaning your nose ring regularly will help to prolong that sparkle, and will also help your piercing stay healthy and not become infected!

You don't necessarily need fancy nose jewelry cleaning solutions in order to keep your nose ring clean. Simply use a soft bristled tooth brush and with warm water gently brush every angle and corner of your gem. A lot of our customers use rubbing alcohol to disinfect their nose jewelry as well.

  7. Cubic Zirconia (CZ) Nose Jewelry

You have probably heard the term CZ or Cubic Zirconia when discussing nose jewelry or any other type of jewelry; earrings, rings, necklaces etc.

Cubic Zirconia is a hard material, colorless naturally, but can be made into beautiful colors such as the ones you can find on www.qualitynosestuds.com

You may opt to choose a nose ring that has a Cubic Zirconia gemstone instead of a real diamond because it gives a similar look of a real geniune diamond, at a lower cost. We have many nose rings available that have both CZ's and Geniune Diamonds.

  9. Prong Settings

Also known as a claw setting, the prong setting is the most common setting used for nose studs. The diamond or gem is inserted into three or more metal or gold prongs that form a basket-like base. This allows the diamond or gem of your nose stud to be held securely in place. The prongs are bent over and shaped so the gem does not fall out. This setting can be used with other nose jewelry as well, such as nose pins and nose screws. It is also very popular with diamond earrings and rings.

  10.

    Bezel Setting Jewelry

Some of our nose jewelry have bezel settings. Bezel settings are a popular gemstone setting which have a metal rim that encircles the sides of the stone on the top of your nose stud or any other type of nose jewelry. Most bezel settings will go around the entire gem of your nose stud, but in some cases the bezel setting may only go around a portion of the gemstone. Bezel settings are a very secure hold for a nose stud so if you are an active person, involved in sports or any type of active lifestyle it is a great choice when picking your next piece of nose jewelry.

  11.

    Swarovski

Swarovksi was founded in 1895 by a man named Daniel Swarovksi. The Swarovski team still creates fabulous styles of crystals to this day, with five exclusive techniques. Pointage, prong setting, bezel setting, crystal pave, and beading. Swarovski entered the fashion and jewelry market in 1977, which has allowed us to experience the high end nose screws we experience today.

Despite the Swarovski name being among the most high end fashion designers in the world (Dolce and Gabbana, Chanel and Louis Vuitton to name a few) the swarovski nose jewelry styles that we offer at Quality Nose Studs are relatively inexpensive. To find nose studs on our website that have a swarovski gem search “Swarovksi” in our search menu.

    Diamond Jewelry

When purchasing a diamond nose stud there are a few things you will want to consider before making your purchase. Diamond nose rings come in all different styles and are the perfect accessory for any outfit or occasion.

When selecting a diamond for your nose stud, nose screw, nose ring, or nose bone you will want to consider the following:

Shape: This is the view of the diamond from the top. Popular shapes for diamonds are round, emerald, or princess. There are many other shapes to choose from, and is entirely a personal preference.

Cut: This refers to the dimensions and finish of a diamond. The cut of a diamond nose stud is probably the most important part of a diamond that you will want to consider. The depth and width of the diamond is what allows light to travel within the stone, and is what gives the stone its luster.

Color: Diamonds act as a prism, and can divide light into many different colours. Each diamond has a color grade ranging from colorless to noticeble-color. (Please see Diamond Color Grade blog for more information)

Clarity: Refers to the inclusions in a diamond. (trace minerals, scratches, and other characteristics)

It takes into consideration the size, location, and the number of inclusions within a Diamond.

Carat Weight: Carat weight is generally determined after the first 4 (shape, cut, color, & clarity) are chosen. Consider the size of nose pin you would like to purchase and what would be best suited for your shape/size nose.
